Hey guys, today I’m going to tell you how I
create volume in my hair without backcombing, ratting, teasing (they’re
all the same thing), or even blow drying.
Most of us know backcombing isn’t good for our
hair, it causes A LOT of breakage to our hair, and that makes our hair look
frizzier and damaged. Most people that backcomb a lot have very thin hair or
even flat hair. Fortunately god blessed me with medium think hair, so I don’t backcomb
as much as some of my friends, but my hair does get really flat if I don’t do
this process. Now before I begin I’m also going to point out something I’ve had
people tell me at school, and I quote, “Volume shampoos do nothing to my hair.”
Well it’s because volumizing shampoos just make it easier to have volume, they
even say on the bottle to blow dry for more volume. Don’t expect to buy the
shampoo and automatically get big hair.
Step
One: Shower!!!
This is probably the most important
place for volume. In the shower you’re
going to want to use a shampoo that helps add volume to your hair. Personally I
use Big Sexy Hair Color Safe Volumizing Shampoo. No my hair isn’t colored, I
just found it really works with my hair and it does a good job.
When you’re shampooing you want to massage
your scalp upwards and what that’s doing is just lifting up your roots and
cleaning them as well.
Step
Two: Buns!!
When I’m done shampooing my hair I flip
it over and make sure the underside is clean then I put it into a high bun. I leave
it in a bun while I’m washing my body and shaving because I shampoo first. I take
it out once I’m done dressing.
I started doing this because it’s so
long so I needed it out of the way then I realized it was also creating volume,
because it was pulling the roots upwards.
Step
Two: Drying!!
Like I said before I don’t blow dry
my hair. It’s so long and I feel like it’s a waste of my time because why would
I stand there for an hour blow drying, when I can do something else for say
about three hours while it blow dries. (Like sleeping lol)
So what I do is I twist it in a
towel and put it on my head. Shocker! After about thirty minutes to an hour I will
take it out of the towel and dry it a little with a towel.
Step
Three: Mousse!!!
Mousse, Mousse, Mousse!!! I love
this stuff, it’s amazing!! I use it when my hair is damp, not sopping wet, but
damp. I do it the same way I put in my shampoo only I turn my head upside down.
I used to use Big Sexy Hair’s Root
Pump, but it started leaving my hair nasty and icky. It kind of made my hair
look like I haven’t washed it in a month so I stopped using it and I’ve been
using Sauvé’s Volumizing Mousse, because I found that light mousses work really
well on my hair, and doesn’t leave it looking and feeling greasy.
That’s about all I do to my hair and it gets pretty
big and has a lot of volume. But if those steps weren’t enough volume for you, because
you want your hair to be like a skyscraper you can always blow dry the roots a
little.
This was the best picture or my hair, and its not even the best or the most volumized one so I will updaet a better picture at a later date, also if you want a tutorial on how to do this beach braid hairstyle let me know!
I hoped this helped you thanks, Courtney
(:
